"Academic Dress" Guidelines
Beginning in 2007, the Painesville City Local School District implemented the "Academically Dressed" program in all schools under Board of Education policy 5111.01. The rationale for implementing the dress code throughout the district is based on a number of factors.
- Research suggests that an academic dress code has a positive effect on student behavior, achievement and self-esteem.
- The Board of Education believes that a neat and orderly appearance is a positive factor for school safety and academic success.
The Academically Dressed Brochure for grades K-8 will provide you with information necessary to assist students and parents in understanding the K-8 "Academically Dressed" program. You will find descriptions of acceptable clothing and resources for shopping for clothing that is reasonably priced and meets the new standard. Additional information is available by calling 440.392.5060. The brochure is available by clicking the link in the right margin.
The Harvey High School Academic Dress Guidelines vary slightly from the elementary and middle school guidelines. These guidelines can be accessed by clicking on the link for Harvey High School Academic Dress Guidelines in the right margin.
The Raider Rack - Clothing Assistance Program
In 2007, “The Raider Rack”, was created to allow our PCLS families to recycle gently used and new clothing to help district families with limited resources obtain clothes that comply with the school’s Academic Dress Guidelines. The Raider Rack continues to be a welcome resource for our families and provides hundreds of dress code approved pants and shirts to students in our schools.
In 2014, the program relocated to the Family Resource Center at Elm Street Elementary School. Families in need of uniform clothing need to call Center Coordinator, Maribel Young at 440-392-5548 to make an appointment for the children to come and try on the available clothes.
Clothing is given by appointment only. Students required to be present for sizing.
Families in need of dress code clothing for their children can call Maribel Young at 440-392-5548.
Each year, we ask that families send in gently used clothing that children have outgrown. Families can bring the clothing to the Family Resource Center at Elm Street Elementary School. The clothing is collected and professionally cleaned with donated services from Richmond Street's "The Laundromat". In addition, we ask our community for donations to help stock “The Raider Rack” with new or used dress code specific items.
