Writer of the Week - Abby Mekulsia

Congratulations to Chestnut Elementary School fourth-grader Abigail Mekulsia, who was selected as the next PCLS W-o-W! (Writer-of-the-Week). Fourth-grade teacher, Ms. Lubbe, submitted her speech because “Abby worked extraordinarily hard on her Wax Museum speech for Franklin D. Roosevelt. She researched Mr. Roosevelt for weeks and carefully selected her facts. Abby wrote her speech and pulled together her costume, even borrowing a wheelchair from the clinic to complete her look! Abby practiced her speech each day at school and home. On Wax Museum Day, she was able to share Franklin D. Roosevelt's story with ease from memory!  Abby was presented with a certificate of achievement and allowed to choose a prize from the Writer’s Toolbox.

Her speech can be viewed below.

The PCLS Curriculum Department/Teaching and Learning Team developed the  W-o-W! program to recognize the hard work and creativity of PCLS students. In an effort to help build a community of writers, the team encourages schools to display the W-o-W’s work and asks teachers to use the W-o-W’s work as part of their writing instruction. Abby will be invited to read her speech at an upcoming board of education meeting.
